Last year I introduced you to glassybaby faithful, Trina Chow.  There are so many things to love about Trina:  She is kind, talented and driven to help others.  It was glassybaby that brought us together.  But I like to think it’s our shared outlook and mission to help others that has strengthened our friendship (and mutual admiration) over the years.

On the weekend of October 18-20th, Trina will participate in the second annual Immediate Impact Breast Cancer Walk, a 15-55 mile fundraising walk that will take place of the course of three days, on an urban route in the City of San Francisco. Many of those joining Trina have been walking to help raise money for breast cancer for years.  The three Bay Area beneficiaries of this years’ walk proceeds are:  Breast Cancer Emergency Fund, Charlotte Maxwell Complimentary Clinic and Friend to Friend Fund – Partners in Care at UCSF Mt. Zion.  The national beneficiary is METAvivor Research and Support, the only national nonprofit focused on metastatic disease.  Funds granted to METAvivor will be directed to research.

Through October 21st, we will donate 10% your online purchase to The Immediate Impact Breast Cancer Walk.  Just enter the giving code “impact” upon checkout.  To begin shopping, click here.

my halloween glassybaby collection

To say that I love Halloween is an understatement. I completely and absolutely love it! I can’t wait for October 31st to come around. I admit– I’m a big kid, and proud of it. Halloween completely speaks to my whimsical, sentimental nature and my passion for anything spooky. I have great memories from my childhood of trick-or-treating, visiting neighborhood haunted houses and attending parties. Nothing has really changed now that I’m an adult, except that I’m a little too old to be dressing up and going door to door in search of treats. Doggone it. But one thing I can do is decorate. And I do it with enthusiasm.

My tastes run more towards the nostalgic and the classic (no zombies please) and I’ve become quite a collector.

From reproduction paper mache pumpkins, witches and devils…

…to classic 60s and 70s Halloween masks,

…to rare illuminated plastic blow mold characters.

Speaking of illumination, that’s where glassybaby comes in. Nothing sets the mood for Halloween better than candlelight, so that’s why I have a gorgeous grouping of oranges and browns on my coffee table in the living room. I chose several of our oranges—’pumpkin’, ‘crush’ and ‘crayola’—added a ghostly ‘creamsicle’ and mixed in a couple of strikingly striped ‘jane’s caramel’s’. The best thing about this combination is that it’s perfect for the entire fall season and all the way through Thanksgiving.

Here they are unlit…

…and lit.

Now, whether you decorate a little, or go a tiny bit overboard like I do, remember to make glassybaby the centerpiece of your ghoulish gathering. So light your candles, turn down the lamps, open your favorite book of ghost stories, and have a thrilling, chilling and very happy Halloween.

Until next time,

Last Sunday, we had the privilege of hosting an event at our Madrona studio and hotshop to benefit the Sunshine Kids Foundation.  Founded in 1982, the Sunshine Kids provides a variety of programs and events, free of charge, for kids who are receiving cancer treatments in hospitals across North America.  The irony of the Sunshine Kids event coinciding with the first major storm of the Pacific Northwest rain festival was not lost on us.  Sideways rain and high wind warnings did not dampen the spirits of those that came out to support the amazing work of this organization.  If you weren’t able to attend, there is still time to have your glassybaby purchases benefit Sunshine Kids.  Shop online and enter the giving code “sunshinekids” to have 10% of your glassybaby purchase donated to Sunshine Kids Foundation.  To shop, click here.

If you or your organization is interested in hosting an event at our Madrona studio and hotshop, please contact our events manager, Rae Fenton at 206-518-9061.  We offer a unique venue for celebrations, fundraisers, team-building events and other types of meetings.

baby’s on board • a guest blog by Guy Farris

One of the best things about working at glassybaby is seeing the instantaneous look of recognition and appreciation on someone’s face when they spy the company’s logo printed on the t-shirt I’m wearing. It’s a badge of honor for me. I’m proud to work here. I love the company’s commitment to making an excellent product and its pledge to give back to the community. I recently discovered that we give back in another way too—by bringing a smile to the faces of stressed-out and frustrated motorists all over the Northwest. I’ve been driving the glassybaby van—filled with hundreds of glassybaby votives—to events all over Washington State, and I’ve noticed an unexpected and wonderful reaction: smiles! And plenty of them. Despite being caught in rush-hour traffic, the moment drivers see the van emblazoned with the glassybaby logo and realize what my precious cargo consists of, they smile, they wave and they even let me merge.  So, while I may help spread good feelings in the retail stores one, two and even three glassybaby at a time, I can reach an even bigger audience on our highways and byways by spreading joy 250—or more—glassybaby at a time. Look for me when you’re out and about. Give me a wave and a smile. I promise you’ll get the same in return.

Until next time,

Guy
