10% from the sale of each ‘hudson’ will be donated to The Shanti Project to provide emotional and practical support to San Francisco’s most vulnerable individuals living with life-threatening illness
glassybaby is pleased to announce our newest giving partner: The Shanti Project. Founded in 1974, by Dr. Charlie Garfield, The Shanti Project extends a helping hand to San Francisco’s most underserved residents. Through a network of more than 250 trained volunteers, Shanti provides one-on-one support to those facing the challenges of HIV/AIDS, breast cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
“Shanti” is a Sanskrit word meaning “inner peace” or “tranquility”. All of Shanti’s programs are aimed at easing the burdens and improving the well-being of people in difficult life situations. As one of the first organizations to work directly with AIDS patients, the Shanti approach quickly became an international model for more than 600 organizations. Today, Shanti provides support to more than 2,000 individuals annually. In the words of Shanti’s Executive Director, Kaushik Roy, “The Shanti Model isn’t complicated, it is based on the universal laws of the heart.”
glassybaby is thrilled to bring its light and mission of giving back to San Francisco, with a new retail store slated to open in early November. To purchase ‘hudson’, click here.
10% from the sale of each ‘imagine’ glassybaby will be donated to the Cancer Patient Assistance Fund at Swedish Cancer Institute
For many families, the past few weeks have been all about going back to school. With backpacks and lunch boxes and colored pencils in hand, we embark upon the promise of a new school year. Whether you held the hand of a scared kindergartner or loaded up a teen’s most prized possessions for the trip to college, starting school is a sure sign that summer is ending and fall is just around the corner. Formerly carefree evenings must now be shared with homework, studying and (sadly, for the kids in my house) bedtimes.
glassybaby have become the gift of choice for teachers and school administrators that have had a special impact on my children and their education. Each gift is accompanied by a note of gratitude and an explanation of why the color was chosen especially for them. This year we decided not to wait for the end of the year or for teacher appreciation week. Instead of an apple or flowers, my son chose to gift his teachers with a vibrant, lime green glassybaby and this message: “Thank you for the great year that lies ahead.” The glassybaby color choice: ‘imagine’. Happy back to school! Here’s to the promise of a new school year: discovery, growth and learning around every corner.

10% from the sale of each ‘wet dog’ will be donated to The Humane Society of the United States
Someone mentioned “the dog days of summer” yesterday. Hearing that phrase, which many associate with the hottest and longest days of summer, I had to smile. At glassybaby, we have our own definition for “the dog days of summer”. In fact, we not only have the dog days of summer…we also have the dog days of fall, winter and spring! Most every day we are fortunate to have some four-legged, furry guests in our showroom and hot shop. Check out this recent visitor:
If this doesn’t elicit some serious puppy love, I don’t know what will! Have you ever noticed that people resemble their dogs? This owner even seems to have taken some fashion cues from his pooch.
We’re passionate about helping dogs and other animals through our partnership with The Humane Society of the United States. The money we give is used to help animals in crisis—whether it is due to a natural disaster or human-created abusive situations like puppy mills. To date, we’ve given more than $19,500 to support the nation’s largest animal protection agency. To purchase ‘wet dog’, click here. Enjoy the last days of summer–and may they be “dog days” of the glassybaby variety.
Through August 31st, 10% from the sale of each ‘crush’ will be donated to Obliteride, a community bike ride funding cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Less than a week ago, more than 700 riders (including virtual riders) and hundreds of volunteers came together in Seattle for the first ever Obliteride—a community bike ride created to fund cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The weekend was filled with good music, delicious food, amazing stories and a collection of riders that chose between the 25-mile, 50-mile, 100-mile and 180-mile courses. The sense of camaraderie and determination reminded us very much of our own glassybaby community. In total, they’ve raised $1.46 million on the way to their goal of $2 million. This money raised will support research whose aim is to ‘crush’ cancer. Through the end of August, you can purchase a ‘crush’ glassybaby and we will donate 10% from each sale to Obliteride.
