prom season

One sure sign that spring is in the air?  It’s prom season.  If you go out to eat on a Saturday night, chances are you will see groups of high school students enjoying their big night out.  Girls with their updos and shoes that defy gravity (and walking in some cases), guys in tuxedos looking uncomfortable and fussing with their cummerbunds or ties, limousines with their uniformed drivers at the ready. A midnight run to Dick’s drive-in will find girls, post-dance, with their hair falling down, corsages looking a bit worse for the wear, shoes off and in the back of someone’s car…and the jacket of their date carefully draped over their shoulders.  It’s a rite of passage that is fun to witness.

A customer recently wrote to share the sad news that her “prom dress” glassybaby had encountered a falling curtain rod and had not survived unscathed.  She was anxious to replace it post-haste, because it had been a gift.  Some time back, “prom dress” was renamed “glamour”. Despite the name change, it still glows a beautiful shade of lilac, reminiscent of many a prom and bridesmaid dress. When we called to confirm shipping arrangements, we heard the lovely story behind the customer’s “prom dress”. She explained that she had not been asked to her prom, and had always felt a twinge of sadness when recalling the memory. When her best friend heard the tale, he immediately purchased a “prom dress” glassybaby for his friend, so that she would have a happy memory to recall instead of a sad one. Who couldn’t use a friend with this kind of compassion and ingenuity? He sounds like a keeper. We’re happy to report that a replacement glassybaby is on its way. ~Mary
