glassybaby gray

gray 1 also grey

adj. gray·er also grey·er, gray·est also grey·est:

1. Of or relating to an achromatic color of any lightness between the extremes of black and white

I was sifting through photos from our shoot with Philip Newton when I came across this beautiful photo of wingman, arthur, elephant and brother.  There is something so calming about gray, perhaps because it is neither black nor white, a color open to all possibilites. In spirit gray is brave, loyal and true.  Where should gray live? Bookshelves, kitchen counters and I imagine all of our glassybaby grays in Steven Gambrel’s town and country designs.

Although you sit in a room that is gray, except for the silver of the straw-paper, and pick at your pale white gown; or lift one of the green beads of your necklace, to let it fall; or gaze at your green fan printed with the red branches of a red willow; or, with one finger, move the leaf in the bowl, the leaf that has fallen from the branches of the forsythia beside you… what is all this? I know how furiously your heart is beating.   ~Wallace Stevens
